satisfaction is a shared loaf

There was a very brief reference to us in the Saturday Guardian a few weeks ago and it prompted a reader called Pete to get in touch via email. We wrote back and thanked him for his positive encouragement and said we'd look forward to meeting him when he travelled up for the Huddersfield Contemporary Music festival in November. Then a week later he sent this email through which filled me with pride in his endeavours:

hair raising facts

Someone just sent me this link and I just had to share. Our friends at Suma Wholefoods stopped using their longstanding baker over just this issue regarding the Veganess of their bread. We're really happy that they're now eating our bread in their worker canteen.

Spreading our wings!

The new year brings with it 2 exciting new outlets for our bread:

Unicorn Grocery in Chorlton, Manchester will be stocking it on Tuesdays and Fridays. If you haven't heard of them, you should have. They're an inspiring cooperative grocery specialising in organic produce.

Real Bread on the Food Programme

Just thought you might be interested in a really interesting Radio 4 Food Programme all about real bread. There is a small piece about us in the programme and lots of other fascinating stuff!

A quote from the past

I’ve been thinking long and hard while we’ve been setting up the bakery about our motivations to do so and the possible effect it will have on the community.

Of course some of the motivations are selfish. I love making bread, so what a good way to earn a living! I want to work somewhere I can walk to instead of commuting for 3 hours a day. I want to do something that I can see the results of daily and that others will hopefully appreciate. It all makes sense.

Jam Tomorrow

We are taking part in a bread revolution.

Bread Heroes

We just wanted to share with you a great piece of news. We were officially made 'Bread Heroes' by the Real Bread Campaign. Click here to read our write up and to find out more about the campaign.

Co-operative hands, sustainable hands

Today The Handmade Bakery was featured on the BBC Radio 4 'You and Yours' programme which discussed co-operative businesses as an appealing and sustainable model for post-recession entrepeneurs. Please click on the link to have a listen. Our piece starts at 27 mins 5 seconds into the programme.
