We are not taking on any new investment at the moment.

A big thank you to all of our Bread and course Bond investors. We raised all of the £40,000 necessary to renovate and equip the new bakery, cafe and training school through our fantastic breadbond and coursebond investors who have put faith and finance in us in exchange for interest paid in either bread or baking courses.

We're so proud of the community that has developed around the bakery and the fact that we have been able to completely circumvent the traditional routes to finance that are so often so damaging to young businesses.

Please read on to find out what we offered to investors and why:

We are a small not-for-profit artisan bakery and education project in Slaithwaite, West Yorkshire. We make traditionally crafted and slowly fermented bread for our local community and run courses both in home baking and how to start a community bakery along with mentoring and consultancy. Built around the politics and ethics of cooperative working, organic agriculture and community scale business, The Handmade Bakery has been an inspiration to many other groups of people trying to bring real bread back to their communities in the UK.

We have outgrown our current premises and are raising funds to renovate an old canal-side weaver's mill as the new location of The Handmade Bakery. This will enable us to bake more nutritious bread for our community and teach more people to bake at home and how to start similar projects where they live.

It will also enable us to run other events around slow and ethical food and community nourishment. You can help make all this happen by investing in us through one of these three ways:

The Bread Bond

For those of you who live locally to us and would like a loaf of bread a week in return for your investment there is the 'Bread Bond'.

Investment: £2000

This is £2000 of loan stock taken out over 3, 4 or 5 years. We pay 6.25% interest per annum (£125 per annum). This is paid to you as a loaf of bread of your choice per week (48 weeks per year) baked on Tuesdays or Thursdays and collectable from Slaithwaite or Marsden. This investment can be extended if agreed by both parties. The longer the initial term is, the more helpful it is to us.

The Course Bond

For those not so local to us but able to pay at least one visit to us you can invest in a 'Course Bond'.

Investment: £1000

This is £1000 of loan stock taken out over a 3 year fixed term. We pay 4% interest per annum (£120 over 3 years). This interest is paid to you in the form of one of our 1 day artisan baking courses. You can choose to attend the course at any stage during the 3 years (bookings dependent).

Bread Revolution Sponsorship

We get correspondence from people all over the world that have been inspired by our work and wish that we were a little closer to them. For those that believe in our work and would like to support us from afar you can become a 'Bread Revolution Sponsor' through a £50 minimum donation. Your name will be added to our roll call of bread revolutionaries which will be displayed on at the top of this page and you will receive a Handmade Bakery 'slow revolution' tea towel as a thank you for your sponsorship of the work we are doing bringing real bread back to the heart of communities.
